Holiday Travel Packing Tips

Pack Smart

  • Make a list of all the items you will need while you are away so that you don’t forget anything important. Try not to wait until the last possible minute to pack. We tend to forget more and pack much less efficiently when we are rushed.

  • Pack anything that could leak like shampoo and other toiletries in ziploc bags. That way if anything comes undone mid-flight it won’t defile everything in your suitcase. It is never fun to open up your suitcase to find your clothes covered in toothpaste.

  • Rolling up your clothes, rather than folding them, helps items to take up less space.

  • If you are travelling with children don’t forget the little things that will make your holiday easier such as a small nightlight or that favourite bedtime stuffed animal. Make sure your diaper bag has all the things necessary to keep your little one happy throughout your flight.

  • Pack valuables, such as your camera or laptop, in your carry on luggage to minimize potential damage.

Pack Light

  • Only pack the clothing you will actually wear. Pack clothes that can easily mix and match to make several different outfits.

  • Try to cut down on how many pairs of shoes you pack. Choose accessories that can go with more than one outfit. Ask yourself if you really need that item before putting it in your suitcase.

  • Leave some extra space for any souvenirs or gifts you will want to bring back with you. Keep in mind the luggage weight restrictions for your airline.

Pack Safe

  • Keep all of your prescription medications in your carry on luggage in case your luggage gets lost.

  • Keep your important documents- such as your passport, contact information and travel insurance information in your carry on luggage so that it is easily accessible.

  • Make sure you are following all of the airline luggage restrictions and regulations.

  • Label all of your baggage with your name, address and phone number to cut down on luggage mix-ups at the airport and so that you can be contacted if your luggage is lost.

Be sure your passport is in perfect travelling condition. Make sure to complete your passport application or passport renewal well in advance of your trip and keep you passport with you while you travel!

Good tips! I love your idea about rolling clothes instead of folding them. I need to try that the next time I go on a trip. Thanks!

Good information and advice, I always pack twice. The first time is a 'test run' to make sure everything fits in the case. Then I go through and take out the things I know I do not really need but have been tempted to pack anyway.

We have to pack 'light' to travel cheaper here as the budget airlines have higher costs for heavier bags. Good hub.
